Charlie Nash (often called simply Nash or Charlie) is one of the most important supporting characters in Capcom's Street Fighter series—an American special forces operative, Guile's closest friend, and a key figure in the fight against Shadaloo. He became playable in the Street Fighter Alpha series in the mid-1990s after first existing as part of Guile's backstory in Street Fighter II. Where Guile's revenge story begins with Charlie's fate, Charlie's own story is about duty, investigation, and unfinished war with M. Bison.
Charlie and Guile investigate Shadaloo together, uncovering Bison's crimes and paying a terrible price for it. In classic continuity, Charlie is captured and believed killed during that mission, becoming the ghost that drives Guile's quest for justice. Later games revisit and expand Charlie's role, sometimes bringing him back under darker or more complicated circumstances. Across versions he remains calm, professional, and tactical—a soldier first, a tournament fighter second.
His look echoes Guile while staying distinct: military gear, a cooler color palette in many appearances, and the bearing of a special-ops veteran. If Guile feels like the angry major left behind, Charlie feels like the partner who walked into the fire first.
In gameplay, Charlie is a charge character closely related to Guile's toolkit. He holds directions to charge specials, then releases them for projectiles and anti-airs. That makes him methodical and defensive in structure, but many versions give him sharper or more aggressive tools than Guile, encouraging a slightly different pace.
His signature special moves will look familiar to Guile players. The Sonic Boom controls mid-screen and forces approach decisions. The Somersault Kick (Flash Kick-style anti-air) punishes jump-ins and ends many of his strongest turns. Depending on the game he may also gain unique extras, but the core fantasy stays consistent: military precision, boom-and-anti-air fundamentals, and clean punishes.
Playing Charlie is about spacing and composure. You lock the ground with Sonic Booms, wait for impatient jumps, and cash out with somersaults and confirms. He teaches the same patient charge discipline as Guile, while carrying one of the series' most emotional storylines.
If you like charge characters and care about Street Fighter's military rivalry with Shadaloo, Charlie Nash is an excellent pick. Behind the Sonic Booms is Guile's lost partner—still defined by the mission that changed both of their lives.
