Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 is a crossover fighting game Capcom released for arcades in 2000, on Sega NAOMI hardware, with a Dreamcast port the same year. Street Fighter icons share a roster with fighters from The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, and Art of Fighting. Outside Japan the cabinet was often titled simply Capcom vs. SNK.
The fantasy is a millennium tournament where two arcade houses finally share a stage. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, Sagat, and M. Bison stand across from Kyo, Iori, Terry, Mai, Geese, and King. Hadoukens, purple flames, and power dunks land in the same match, and that collision is still why people boot the game up.
The headline system is the ratio. Every fighter is rated from 1 to 4, and a team must add up to exactly 4. A lone ratio-4 fighter takes the whole card. Two ratio-2 anchors make a classic pair. Four ratio-1 characters give you a full bench. Higher ratios hit harder and absorb more damage, so the team you build is already a decision before round one.
Before the match you also pick a groove. Capcom Groove borrows the Street Fighter Alpha meter: stocks that climb to three levels of super. SNK Groove borrows Extra mode from The King of Fighters '94 through '98: you charge the power gauge yourself, spend it on a super, and gain desperate strength when your life bar starts flashing. The controls use SNK's four-button layout, so the game feels like a handshake between the two companies rather than a Street Fighter reskin.
Matches are a relay, not a Marvel-style tag. One fighter is on screen at a time. When that fighter is knocked out, the next teammate steps in, and the opponent who scored the KO stays with whatever life they have left. Comebacks depend on who you saved and how much ratio you spent on them. Clears in the archive show the range: Ryu with Ken, Chun-Li with E. Honda, Kyo with Iori, Geese with Vice, Cammy with Raiden.
It also matters as history. This was the first game in the SNK vs. Capcom line to reach arcades, after the handheld Match of the Millennium. Character art from both Capcom and SNK illustrators sits on the same select screen. Capcom vs. SNK 2 followed in 2001 with more grooves and a freer ratio system, but Millennium Fight 2000 is the sharper first collision.
If you like 2D crossovers, ratio teams, or arcade cabinets from the turn of the millennium, this is the one to watch. The videos below run Arcade Mode with no commentary, straight through both companies' legends.
