Mist Opportunities Co-op Guide: Protecting the Harvesting Bots

Mist Opportunities is the StarCraft II Co-op mission where you are not really the main character — the harvesting bots are. Automated harvesters work their way around a fog-covered map collecting terrazine, and your entire job is to keep them alive long enough to finish. Every objective, every fight and every build decision comes back to that one sentence.

The mission is an escort and defense map, which makes it feel very different from an objective-push mission. You do not choose where the fighting happens; the bots do. They move to the next collection point on their own schedule and enemy forces come to them. Your army has to be where the bots are going, not where the last fight was.

Losing bots is the real failure state. They are fragile compared to the things attacking them, they do not defend themselves well, and there is a limited number of them. A single lost bot is survivable — one of the runs on the channel finishes Brutal after losing one — but each loss makes the rest of the mission slower and every remaining bot more precious. Treat them like objectives with health bars, not like workers.

Split attention is the hardest part. The bots do not conveniently cluster, so you will regularly have two things to protect at once. This is exactly where static defense pays for itself: cannons, bunkers, spines and turrets sit at a collection point permanently while your mobile army handles the fight that actually needs judgement. Trying to cover the whole map with one army is the most common way a comfortable run turns into a scramble.

Also budget for air threats. Escort missions are unforgiving about missing anti-air, because a flying wave that ignores your ground line goes straight for the thing you cannot afford to lose.

Commander styles that work. Defensive and support commanders — Swann, Karax, Stetmann — hold collection points cheaply and let their ally roam. Cloak and control commanders like Vorazun and Zeratul disable or delete waves before they touch a bot. Swarm commanders Zagara and Abathur keep enough bodies on the map to cover several points at once. Mobile firepower — Han & Horner, Nova, Tychus, Kerrigan, Alarak — answers whichever bot is currently in trouble. The best pairings put one commander on anchoring duty and one on reaction duty.

The channel has plenty of Brutal Mist Opportunities runs — Raynor and Vorazun, Zagara with Han & Horner, Stetmann and Swann, Artanis and Abathur, Zeratul and Nova — showing both the fortify approach and the fast-reaction approach.
