Who Is M. Bison? Street Fighter's Psycho Power Dictator Explained

M. Bison is the ultimate villain of Capcom's classic Street Fighter era—the dictator of the criminal empire Shadaloo and the master of Psycho Power. He debuted as the final boss of Street Fighter II in 1991 and became one of gaming's most recognizable antagonists. Where Ryu seeks mastery and Guile seeks justice, Bison seeks domination: armies, experiments, and absolute control.

Bison's story sits at the center of Street Fighter II's conflict. He commands Grand Masters such as Vega, Balrog, and Sagat, kidnaps and brainwashes fighters, and fuels countless personal vendettas. Chun-Li hunts him for answers about her father. Guile hunts him for Charlie Nash. Cammy's past is tied to his experiments. Across the series Bison remains arrogant, theatrical, and terrifyingly confident—a tyrant who believes Psycho Power makes him immortal and inevitable.

His look is pure boss energy: military peaked cap, red uniform, cape, and a psychic purple aura. Even before a round starts, Bison feels like the final stage. He is not designed to look humble. He is designed to look like the man who owns the tournament.

In gameplay, Bison is a fast, oppressive boss character built around scary normals, teleport-like movement options in many versions, and explosive specials. He often plays aggressively, using pressure and sudden approaches to overwhelm opponents before they can set up their own gameplan. He rewards confident offense and strong punish instincts.

His signature special moves are legendary. The Psycho Crusher is a spinning, psycho-powered charge that flies across the screen and defines his boss identity. The Scissor Kick (Double Knee Press) is a sliding dual-knee attack used for approach and pressure. Many versions also give him the Head Press and the Psycho Shot, plus supers such as the devastating Knee Press Nightmare that fit his overwhelming dictator fantasy.

Playing Bison is about fear and tempo. You force mistakes, convert openings into big damage, and keep opponents guessing whether the next threat is a crusher, a slide, or a jump-in. When he is on point, he feels exactly like a final boss should.

If you want the classic Street Fighter villain experience—power, aura, and a story that ties half the roster together—M. Bison is an essential pick. Behind the Psycho Crushers is the dictator of Shadaloo, still convinced the world belongs to him.
