Akuma (known as Gouki in Japan) is one of the most iconic characters in Capcom's Street Fighter series—a wandering demon warrior who fully embraces the murderous side of Ansatsuken. He first appeared in Super Street Fighter II Turbo in 1994 as a secret boss and quickly became a franchise legend. Where Ryu resists darkness and Gouken rejects it, Akuma accepts it completely in the pursuit of absolute strength.
Akuma's story is soaked in family tragedy and martial obsession. He is the brother of Gouken, the master who trained Ryu and Ken. After embracing the Satsui no Hado—the Surge of Murderous Intent—Akuma kills Gouken and continues walking a solitary path, challenging only the strongest. In gameplay, Akuma is usually a high-risk, high-reward shoto with sharper tools than Ryu. He often has stronger fireballs, air fireballs, faster mobility, and terrifying damage—balanced by lower defense or other weaknesses depending on the game. He rewards aggressive, precise players who can convert openings into huge damage without getting reckless.
His signature special moves twist the classic Ansatsuken kit into something deadly. The Gou Hadoken and Zanku Hadoken give him grounded and aerial projectile control. The Gou Shoryuken is a brutal dragon punch. The Tatsumaki Zankukyaku keeps his hurricane-kick pressure alive. Above all stands the legendary Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon), a command grab super that teleports into a cinematic finishing sequence and remains one of fighting games' most famous attacks.
Playing Akuma is about reading the moment. You zone when needed, explode when the opponent falters, and always threaten more damage than a normal shoto should. When mastered, he feels like the dark mirror of Street Fighter's hero fantasy.
