Zasz is one of the Overmind's cerebrates in classic StarCraft: a brood commander who speaks with cold loyalty and dies to prove a new kind of war has begun. He is less a personality cult than a node in the Swarm - and that is the point.
Cerebrates are the Overmind's generals, each governing broods and reporting through the psychic hierarchy. Zasz appears as a vigilant, somewhat distrustful voice during the Zerg campaign, especially as the Swarm remakes Sarah Kerrigan into the Queen of Blades.
His importance spikes when Dark Templar strike. Unlike ordinary Zerg leaders who can be reconstituted, cerebrates killed with Void energy stay dead. Zasz's death teaches the Overmind - and the player - that Protoss heretics have found a permanent weapon.
That lesson drives later missions: vengeance against Dark Templar, tighter control of the Swarm, and the race toward Aiur. Zasz is the first crack in the myth of Zerg immortality.
He endures as campaign texture more than fan-favorite monologue, but he matters structurally. Without a cerebrate who can die forever, Tassadar and Zeratul's strategy has no proof.
Revisit the early Zerg missions and the aftermath of Dark Templar raids - Zasz is the Swarm's warning shot.
